چکیده

One of the five final SHA-3 candidates, Grøstl, has been inspired by the Advanced Encryption Standard. This unique feature can be exploited in a large variety of practical applications. In order to have a better picture of the Grøstl-AES computational efficiency (high-level scheduling, internal pipelining, resource sharing, etc.), we designed a high-speed coprocessor for the Grøstl-based HMAC and AES in the counter mode. This coprocessor offers high-speed computations of both authentication and encryption with relatively small penalty in terms of area and speed when compared to the authentication (original Grøstl circuitry) functionality only. From our perspective, the main advantage of Grøstl over other finalists is the fact that its hardware architecture naturally accommodates AES at the cost of a small area overhead.

A Low-Area Unified Hardware Architecture for the AES and the Cryptographic Hash Function Grøstl

This article describes the design of an 8-bit coprocessor for the AES (encryption, decryption, and key expansion) and the cryptographic hash function Grøstl on several Xilinx FPGAs. Our Arithmetic and Logic Unit performs a single instruction that allows for implementing AES encryption, AES decryption, AES key expansion, and Grøstl at all levels of security. Thanks to a careful organization of A...

A High-Speed Unified Hardware Architecture for AES and the SHA-3 Candidate Grøstl

The NIST competition for developing the new cryptographic hash standard SHA-3 is currently in the third round. One of the five remaining candidates, Grøstl, is inspired by the Advanced Encryption Standard. This unique feature can be exploited in a large variety of practical applications. In order to have a better picture of the Grøstl-AES computational efficiency (high-level scheduling, interna...

Camellia: A 128-Bit Block Cipher Suitable for Multiple Platforms

We present a new 128-bit block cipher called Camellia. Camellia supports 128-bit block size and 128-, 192-, and 256-bit keys, i.e. the same interface specifications as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Efficiency on both software and hardware platforms is a remarkable characteristic of Camellia in addition to its high level of security. It is confirmed that Camellia provides strong securi...

A Single Chip Design and Implementation of Aes -128/192/256 Encryption Algorithms

In this paper an efficient hardware architecture design and implementation of all candidates of AES encryption standards AES-128, AES-192 and AES-256 on the same hardware is proposed. AES algorithm proposed by NIST has been widely accepted as best cryptosystem for wireless communication security. The hardware implementation is useful in wireless security like military and mobile phones. This co...
